Sun City West Metal Club
General Membership Meeting Minutes
Thursday, March 20, 2025
Meeting called to order by President Lee Schwartz at 11:00a.m.– 63 members were present (quorum of 50 was met).
A motion to approve Feb. 13, 2025, minutes was made by Mike Bell #978, seconded by Mike Czaiko #2549. Motion carried.
Joe Faraone reported current club financial data. We have 523 members; 41 new members are welcomed to the club.
Old Business: Lee reported that the repairs to the 3-Axis Milling Machine have been completed. The old 3-Axis control panel will be used to update the 2-Axis machine. Lee thanked the Foundry Crew for making repairs to the shed storage roof that matches the rest of our building. The Foundry group’s efforts to clean up the yard area are much appreciated.
New Business: Randy Mekus #2445 stated that club members voted a few years ago to purchase the Arclight and repair the Phoenix plasma cutting machines for the use of all club members. He stated that the current maintenance practice of running one machine at a time limits the use of the machines in the high season for club members. Randy made a motion, seconded by Gary Droll #1898, to make both machines available for member use from Oct. 1 through May 30. After discussion about the maintenance schedule for these machines, a hand count vote was taken: (13) members approved; (23) opposed; the motion did not carry.
Lee thanked the outgoing Board Members for their service to the club: Dave Price – General Purchasing Manager, Ken Booth – Assistant Treasurer, Terry Hurst – Metal Purchasing Manager. Lee reviewed the 2025/2026 Board members and looks forward to a successful year for the Metal Club.
Members are reminded to be certified on equipment, read machine instructions, ask for help as needed, and clean up the work area when operating machinery safely in the club.
Members who are interested in helping to sharpen drill bits for the club should see Lee for further information.
The metal storage area has become messy and unorganized. Members should cut up or remove their material from this area by April 1st when the club will dispose of this material.
Sarge Raddatz heads up the club maintenance group. If you would like to help with maintenance duties, please see Sarge.
Terry Hurst will continue to coordinate the club’s Suggestion Box. Remember to include your name/phone for questions.
A Monitor Meeting will be held in April to review procedures. More details about this meeting will be made available soon.
Suzanne Jones #1625 thanked the club on behalf of the PRIDES group for their help to install metal fencing in their outdoor storage area – it was very appreciated by the group!
Our next General Meeting will be on Thursday, April 20th at 11:00am at the RH Social Hall. This will be our last meeting of the season.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 11:30 am by Mike Bell #978 and Gary Droll #1898 – all were in favor.
