Rec Center Officer Training Session: Kasey Huhta, Rec Center Manager, and Lara Petrin, Scheduling Lead, attended our meeting at 11:00am to present the Officer Training material to the board. Our regular board meeting continued following this presentation.
Meeting called to order 11:50a.m. by President Larry Mann. Present: Blake Flickinger, Don Mellum, Jim Filipiak, Sarge Raddatz, Joe Faraone, Wendi Boos. Absent: Marty Rosauer, Lee Schwartz.
Approval of Minutes: Blake made a motion, seconded by Sarge to approve the April 3, 2026, minutes - all were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Don reviewed the club’s financial status in the checking and savings accounts. A discussion about costs for mailbox production took place. Sarge will provide a cost per mailbox for review by the Board to confirm how the club will proceed with mailbox production.
General Items: Larry shared that a hand cutting machine for material up to 16 gauge was donated to the club and is located near the welding area. A club member sold a hand cutting machine (for up to 10 gauge) to the club for $450 (valued at $1200).
Sarge reported that the replacement powder coating oven has been shipped and will arrive next week. The Rec Center has been contacted about electrical installation for the oven.
A discussion took place regarding a replacement for the Sand Blaster unit. Sarge presented quotes and specifications for 60”, 72” and 96” units. The 72” unit appears to be the preferred unit to purchase for $6840 + $1000 shipping cost. This will be reviewed and confirmed by the Board at a later date. Monitors will be trained to identify what can and cannot be placed in the unit; the unit will also be locked so the Monitor can confirm proper use of the equipment.
Kasey mentioned in her presentation that replacement equipment must be voted on by the club membership. However, we are reviewing this as our by-laws state that ‘new’ equipment over $2500 (not replacements) must be approved by the members.
A Monitor Training session will be held in the fall to review club practices for proper and safe use of equipment, etc. Monitors are encouraged to walk around the shop to see how members are using equipment; club members are also encouraged to say something when another member is not using a machine in the proper way.
Sarge asked for feedback from the last 30 new members to see how the Orientation program can be improved to encourage new members to participate in club classes, activities, etc.
Motion to adjourn made by Blake, seconded by Don. The meeting adjourned at 12:20pm.
