Meeting called to order 10:30a.m. by President Lee Schwartz. Present: Rod Flack, Pat Frantz, Joe Faraone, Wendi Boos, Terry Hurst, Dave Price, Larry Mann.
Approval of Minutes: Motion made by Ken, seconded by Rod to approve Sept. 6, 2024 minutes - all were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Joe provided a recap of club finances and a report on club revenue and expenses to date that shows a possible loss in net revenue by year end. Joe will review this topic with club members at the General Meeting on Oct. 10th.
The club has incurred an increase in the cost for mailbox production. Joe made a motion to increase the price of a mailbox from $260 to $280 for all new orders effective today. Rod seconded the motion; all were in favor.
At our next Board meeting, Rod will present a proposed work order pricing structure that separates simple basic repairs from major fabrication jobs that would include a $15 or $20 minimum to the club.
Annex 220-volt Service Installation: The 220-volt service was installed by the Rec Center in the Annex area. We are considering moving the Enco band saw from the machine area to the Annex corner for noise considerations.
Paint Booth Update: Rod will submit a CR-13 for the Rec Center to unhinge the lighting in the Paint Booth so we can paint a coating on the ceiling and walls of the booth. We have enough paint for this job at the club.
Locker Visit Requirement: Wendi provided a recap of 134 total lockers with 46 members who currently have less than the required 24 club visits to retain their locker for 2025. We will remind members about this requirement at the General Meeting. Club visits are displayed on the monitor when members swipe in with their badge at the club.
Newcomers Event: Lee, Joe, and Wendi will attend this event on Oct. 23rd from 4pm - 6pm at Palm Ridge. We will raffle the metal Christmas tree that Joe made as a prize from the Metal Club.
President Update: Lee commended Terry, Rod, Joe, and Larry for working together to review the best pricing options for a large metal order for the club. We will continue to look for discounts and pricing advantages for metal and all purchasing needs are moving forward.
A separate metal order will be placed for the gate extension project for the PRIDES storage area that will be paid by PRIDES.
The Library informed us that the Metal Club will not participate in a showcase for projects as the cabinet sizes have changed, which will not accommodate our projects.
The CNC 2-Axis Milling Machine and the 3-Axis Milling Machine are both out of service. Rod will contact a machine company in Phoenix for repair and service consultation. Members are reminded that club documentation, thumb drives, etc. for club equipment must be retained at the club and not with individual members.
The Board discussed the need for Board members to be informed about club equipment repairs so that standard operating and maintenance procedures are followed. Individual club members should not attempt to repair or fix equipment on their own. There may be other factors that a member may not be aware of regarding equipment repairs involving service contracts, repair costs, etc. Lee will discuss this topic at the General Meeting.
The automatic drain for the air compressor should arrive today to complete the air compressor repairs.
Members are reminded that they must be certified to operate equipment. Members should ask for assistance to minimize equipment damage and operate equipment safely.
Roundtable: Larry reported that the welding spool gun is operational. Dave said the New Member Orientation for 3 new members conducted last Saturday was a success; the new Saturday morning schedule is working very well.
Terry would like to share with members at the General Meeting how the steel order process is being managed to save money and provide stock for club use. He will also discuss the special-order process.
Wendi shared that classes are beginning to be scheduled with instructors. Norm Muzzy is taking a course in TIG Welding so he can provide an overview to members this fall.
