Meeting called to order 10:20a.m. by President Lee Schwartz. Present: Rod Flack, Joe Faraone, Ken Booth, Wendi Boos, Dave Price, Larry Mann – Absent: Pat Frantz, Terry Hurst.
Lee made a motion to adjourn into Executive Session, Rod seconded the motion, all were in favor. The regular meeting was reconvened at 10:35am.
Approval of Minutes: Rod made a motion, seconded by Larry to approve the October 4, 2024, minutes - all were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Joe provided a recap of club finances.
A discussion about the minimum shop charge on the Work Order Form took place. A revised form with two columns was suggested to show small repair projects with no minimum charge versus larger projects that will have a $15 minimum shop charge. This new work order system will go into effect on January 1, 2025.
Band Saw Move: The two smaller vertical band saws (JET & Rockwell) were moved into the Annex area. The larger ENCO saw has not yet been moved.
Paint Booth Update: The Rec Center did a nice job cleaning the Paint Booth lighting. Lee and Tim ‘Sarge’ Raddatz will paint the special coating in the booth next week.
Milling Machine Repairs: The 2-Axis and 3-Axis Milling machines were repaired and are back in service. A company in Mesa completed the repairs on-site including software updates and the purchase of a $600 core for the 2-Axis machine. We were pleased with the service provided by this firm.
Miscellaneous Items: The Rec Center installed lighting over the welding table in the Annex area; the 220-outlet was installed, and a ground fault issue was also repaired.
Dave mentioned that he purchased and painted punches for the Ironworker which are available for general use.
The Rec Center is installing Wi-Fi in the club for remote temperature control as part of a capital project.
The Posse has contacted us about the exit door facing Camino del Sol not closing properly due to getting hung up on the concrete at the door sill plate. We are working with Graham from the Rec Center to resolve this issue.
Two Monitors are needed on each shift to provide desk coverage and shop coverage/use of the equipment. Wendi and Griff will contact a list of members interested in the Monitor position to schedule orientation shifts.
Dues Renewal Process for 2025: A discussion about tightening the timeframe for dues renewal to the month of January, followed by a $10 late fee for dues paid February through December took place. Dave made a motion to increase dues from $35 to $40 rather than impose a late fee to generate greater cash flow for the club, Joe seconded the motion. Three members approved the motion; three opposed; Lee denied the motion, the motion did not carry.
Rod made a motion to collect dues of $35 from January 1 to January 31; dues paid from February 1 to December 31 will be assessed a $10 late fee. Wendi seconded the motion; five members were in favor, one opposed, the motion carried.
Locker Visit Requirement: Wendi reviewed a draft email that will be sent to those members with less than 24 visits required to retain a locker in 2025. Lee stated that members who have any issues with this requirement should see him directly.
Newcomers Event: Lee thanked Wendi, Joe, and Ken for their participation in this event. Lee stopped by and was impressed with the number of clubs and general attendance at this event. Joe commented that the club has gained several new members because of this event. The next Newcomer Event will be held in January 2025.
Agenda for General Meeting: Lee reviewed the topics that will be discussed at the upcoming General Meeting on Nov. 12th. We also discussed having a holiday cookie exchange at the General Meeting in December. More details to follow about this event.
Roundtable: Dave had a concern about the way the lock on the Conex container was cut; Rod and Larry said the lock was difficult to engage, but Dave questioned the security of the container with this change. Dave also asked why the Ellis Band Saw has been locked out stating that it is a useful, quick-to-use saw that makes it more involved to get the key from the Monitor. Rod responded that due to blade damage, the saw is being locked out to identify who is damaging the saw.
Wendi reported that classes are becoming very active; she is working with instructors to schedule classes.
