Meeting called to order 9:00 a.m. by President James Chitwood. Present: Dave Price, Joe Faraone, Alan Green, Lee Schwartz, Gary Konop, Bill Smith, Wendi Boos – Ken Booth was out of town.
Approval of Minutes: Gary made a motion, seconded by Bill, to accept the April 21, 2022, Board minutes – all approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Joe provided a recap of club finances.
Laguna Machine Update: Alan reviewed his attempts to get resolution of the torch tip height controller working with Laguna Tech Service staff. Laguna has been difficult to deal with and resolution remains uncertain. Lee shared his view to have any service or purchases for the plasma machines managed by a local Phoenix firm to avoid these issues in the future. Joe recommended an after-market Hypertherm torch height controller that can be installed on the machine for approximately $600. All were favor of this purchase to rectify these issues.
Mailbox Update: Alan and Bill reviewed the pricing for various mailbox assembly parts. After an extensive review of the costs and increases in steel prices, all agreed to increase the price of vacation mailboxes from $230 to $240 effective today. All current orders will honor the $230 price. Mailbox assembly production continues to meet customer demand.
Safety Committee Update: Dave reviewed the committee’s plans to develop a General Safety manual as well as specific machine safety manuals that will be available at the club and on the website. The Committee consists of Dave, Rich Barchman and Kevin Adolphson. New safety kits were purchased this week after an accident occurred in the shop. The member is doing well; an accident report was submitted to the Rec Center.
Display Board Proposal: Dave reviewed a proposal to photograph and print up to (10) 8'x4' panels of various functions at the club. The remaining display boards would highlight member project work to show visitors the wide range of metal working at the club. Dave made a motion, seconded by Alan, to spend up to $1200 for the printing of the (10) panels based upon a quote from Moore Graphics. All were in favor of this proposal.
New Addition Items: James reviewed outstanding projects that the Rec Center has been asked to complete. All agreed with this list: Lighting in corners near sandblaster, grinders, knife area; Electrical run to the Powder Coater; Foundry 50amp outlet outside. Gary will follow-up on air compressor issues.
Roundtable: James asked Joe to lead the revision of our club by-laws per direction from the Rec Center. The Board will review this before voting at the next General Membership meeting in the fall. Wendi stated that the swipe system will identify members who need to pay their 2022 dues as the grace period has ended. Alan stated the Sun City Metal Club is selling their powder coating oven – we have no interest in this purchase. Lee said the new multi-function welder is working very well and is easy to use. Gary has a new contact for metal recycling that will manage our recycling needs. Dave mentioned the Sandblaster is 20 years old and in need of more repairs – new unit is $5600 for future review.
Gary moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alan. Meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
